HDMA ANNOUNCES NEW EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE AND BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Arlington, VA – June 2, 2009 – At its Executive Committee and Board of Directors meeting on May 12, the Healthcare Distribution Management Association (HDMA) announced the members of its expanded Executive Committee and Board of Directors. New by-laws passed at its previous Board Meeting in November, 2008 increased the size of the HDMA Board of Directors from its past structure of 13 Active distributor members to one representative (or corporate officer) from each Active member company and extended its Executive Committee membership from six to seven Active members. HDMA OPPOSES REPEAL OF LIFO INVENTORY ACCOUNTING METHOD

Arlington, VA – May 18, 2009 – The Healthcare Distribution Management Association (HDMA) opposes proposals to repeal the last-in, first-out (LIFO) inventory accounting method, as mentioned in the Senate Finance Committee's list of healthcare financing options released today. Repealing LIFO would force companies currently using this accounting method to report their cumulative LIFO reserves as income, resulting in a massive retroactive tax increase for companies. HDMA SUPPORTS THE COUNTERFEIT DRUG PREVENTION ACT OF 2009 AS A VITAL MEASURE TO FURTHER ENSURE PATIENT SAFETY, DETER CRIMINAL COUNTERFEITING

Arlington, VA – March 18, 2009 –The Healthcare Distribution Management Association (HDMA) supports the Counterfeit Drug Prevention Act of 2009 (H.R. 1450), which significantly increases criminal penalties for counterfeiting patient medications from one to three years’ imprisonment, to 20 years or more. By introducing this legislation, Congress is taking a strong step forward to further deter criminal counterfeiters and enhance supply chain security. Read more

HDMA APPLAUDS INTRODUCTION OF H.R. 1392, LEGISLATION TO CORRECT THE TREATMENT OF PROMPT PAY DISCOUNTS UNDER THE MEDICARE PART B AVERAGE SALES PRICE REIMBURSEMENT METRIC

Arlington, VA – March 13, 2009 –The Healthcare Distribution Management Association (HDMA) commends Representatives Gene Green (D-TX)  and Ed Whitfield (R-KY) for introducing bipartisan legislation (H.R. 1392) to correct the Average Sales Price (ASP) payment methodology used by Medicare to determine reimbursement for Part B drugs and biologics.  This critical legislation clarifies how to treat prompt pay discounts paid to distributors when calculating ASP. By clarifying that prompt pay discounts paid to distributors are not to be included in the manufacturer’s ASP calculation, Medicare Part B reimbursement rates for drugs and biologics will more accurately reflect the acquisition price available to physicians and hospital outpatient clinics.
