Hurricane Dolly, a Category 2 storm, made landfall on Wednesday in Southern Texas, and HDMA member distributors activated contingency plans in order to effectively meet customer demands.
Through Rx Response communications, HDMA shared situation reports with members on Hurricane Dolly’s storm status, including the Texas Governor’s "imminent disaster acknowledgment" in the affected areas. HDMA also provided notices from the American Red Cross, including a list of the 21 open shelters and the status of Emergency Response Vehicles deployed. HDMA also provided Texas distributor members fuel notices from the Texas Department of Transportation, including information on fuel tanks, stations and standby personnel.
HDMA distributor members in southeast Texas responded to the storm by contacting customers prior to the hurricane’s arrival. Based on customer needs, HDMA members made advance deliveries and altered scheduled delivery times as necessary to ensure customers were appropriately supplied for the duration of the storm.
Although not activated to do more than situation monitoring and reporting, communications and information sharing has greatly increased between members of the Rx Response network, including HDMA staff, manufacturer, distributor, dispenser and emergency responder contacts.
