ARLINGTON, VA —October 17, 2005 —HDMA honored Fred McQueary, former President of McQueary Brothers Drug Company, with the 2005 HDMA Foundation/Wyeth NEXUS Award for Lifetime Achievement at the recent 2005 HDMA Annual Leadership Forum. The NEXUS Award is the industry’s highest honor, recognizing leadership, exemplary service and professional excellence in the healthcare industry and the community.

“HDMA is pleased to recognize this extraordinary individual for his dedication to making a difference in the industry and in his community,” said HDMA President and CEO John M. Gray. “Fred McQueary’s commitment, leadership, spirit and vision make him a highly-respected member of the healthcare industry and a valued business colleague. His exceptional contributions have positively affected both business partners and consumers.”

McQueary began his career in the distribution industry in the 1940s, rising through various positions at McQueary Brothers until assuming the job of President. During his time with the company, McQueary Brothers’ territory expanded from Southwest Missouri and Northwestern Arkansas to include major metro areas in Kansas City and St. Louis, as well as areas of Illinois, Iowa, Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma.

In the community, McQueary, along with his brother Bill, is the founder of the W.L. “Les” and Jennie McQueary Athletics Scholarship at Southwest Missouri State University, an annual award of $9,000 to student athletes. McQueary is also a regular contributor in local, state and national political races.

At HDMA, McQueary has been an influential leader, providing counsel on the Wholesaler Advisory Panel, the Professional Relations Committee and the Audit Committee. He sat on the HDMA Board of Directors from 1989 to 1992, and the HDMA Executive Committee from 1992 to 1999. McQueary was the HDMA Chairman of the Board from 1995 to 1996, and he currently is active on the Government and Public Policy Council

“I’ve worked in the healthcare distribution business my entire career,” said McQueary. “To be recognized by the industry with the prestigious NEXUS Award is a privilege and an honor.”
