HDMA President and CEO John M. Gray will open the 2010 Distribution Management Conference & Technology Expo and apprise attendees of the latest updates on HDMA’s priorities across the industry, in statehouses and on Capitol Hill.

Keynote Presentation: Solving the Healthcare Crisis
Senator Tom Daschle, Former Senate Majority and Minority Leader
One of the most influential men in Washington today, Tom Daschle is a former senator whose lifelong passion and commitment to public service and healthcare reform is undeniable. As Senate majority and minority leader from 1994 to 2005, he cultivated a legacy as a dynamic party leader and tireless fighter for the common man. Senator Daschle remains committed to everyday Americans. He is an outspoken advocate for healthcare reform and a well-connected voice among the healthcare industry and Washington policy makers.
Based on his book, Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis, Senator Daschle outlines the healthcare reform strategies that form the foundation of President Obama’s healthcare plan. Evaluating where previous attempts at national healthcare coverage have succeeded and where they have gone wrong, he explains the complex social, economic and medical issues involved in reform and sets forth his vision for change.

Andrew C. von Eschenbach, MD is Senior Director for Strategic Initiatives at the Center for Health Transformation (CHT) and former FDA Commissioner and Director of the National Cancer Institute. During his tenure at the FDA, Dr. von Eschenbach set out to modernize the Agency, helping to design a variety of new programs to strengthen the FDA in its mission to protect and promote public health. Dr. von Eschenbach has held numerous leadership roles throughout his career, entering government service with an outstanding career over three decades as a renowned physician, surgeon, oncologist and medical executive, including Executive Vice President at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. von Eschenbach will discuss the FDA Modernization Project recently launched by the CHT, including steps to ensure the integrity of the food, drugs and medical devices that move through the supply chain. He will highlight the FDA’s Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies program and its implications for supply chain participants, as well as other agency strategies aimed to ensure the safety of medications, including the FDA’s sentinel initiative.
