A successful football coach on the professional and collegiate levels, a popular NFL analyst, noted author and community leader, Brian Billick is best-known for serving as the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens from 1999 to 2007. In his first year as head coach, Billick guided the Ravens — a new franchise with the youngest players in NFL history — to their first non-losing season. In 2000, he led the Ravens to a decisive 34-7 Super Bowl XXXV victory over the New York Giants.
Following his coaching career, Billick worked as a studio analyst for ABC Sports, a draft analyst for the NFL Network and recently joined the FOX Sports team as an NFL game analyst. Billick is the co-author of three books; his latest book is titled More Than a Game: the Glorious Present and Uncertain Future of the NFL (with Michael MacCambridge). Billick has participated enthusiastically in community work since his arrival in Baltimore, including working with the United Way of Central Maryland (the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society), hosting golf tournaments for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and serving as the honorary chairman for the American Lung Association’s Breath of Life Celebration. Andrew C. von Eschenbach, MD is Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Center for Health Transformation, where he leads the 21st Century FDA Modernization Project. Dr. von Eschenbach was appointed Acting Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration in September 2005 and confirmed by the Senate in December 2006. Dr. von Eschenbach immediately set out to modernize the FDA. He led initiatives to strengthen the FDA and its mission to protect and promote public health. He emphasized FDA’s work with external partners to assure quality throughout the lifecycle of the products it regulates, while internally fostering a transparent and efficient regulatory pathway that remained rigorous and science-led. Prior to FDA, Dr. von Eschenbach spent four years as Director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) at the National Institutes of Health. At the time of his appointment by President Bush, he was President-Elect of the American Cancer Society.
Dr. von Eschenbach entered government service after a career spanning three decades as a leading physician, surgeon, oncologist and executive. An internationally renowned cancer specialist and author of more than 200 scientific articles and studies, Dr. von Eschenbach has received numerous professional awards and honors. In 2006 he was named one of Time magazine’s “100 most influential people to shape the world,” and in 2007 and 2008, he was selected as one of the Modern Healthcare/Modern Physician’s “50 Most Powerful Physician Executives in Healthcare.”
