Senator Tom Daschle
Former Senate Majority and Minority Leader

A longtime U.S. senator from South Dakota, Tom Daschle was Senate Majority Leader from 2001 in 2004. Daschle was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1978, serving eight years. In 1986, he was elected to the U.S. Senate. In 1994, he was elected by his colleagues as their Democratic Leader. Daschle is one of the longest-serving Senate Democratic Leaders in history and the only one to serve twice as both Majority and Minority Leader. Today, Daschle is an advisor to the law firm of Alston and Bird, where he provides strategic advice on public policy issues such as climate change, energy, healthcare, trade, financial services and telecommunications. He is also a Distinguished Fellow at American Progress, a Visiting Professor at Georgetown University and a public speaker. Daschle published numerous articles and is the author of two books, Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis (with Scott Greenberger and Jeanne Lambrew) and Like No Other Time: The 107th Congress and the Two Years that Changed America Forever (with Michael D’Orso).

   

Howard Fineman
Senior Washington Correspondent and Political Columnist, Newsweek

Howard Fineman is Newsweek’s Senior Washington Correspondent and Columnist, senior editor, and deputy Washington bureau chief, and is one of the nation’s leading political reporters. He is the author of “Living Politics,” a column that began on MSNBC.COM and Newsweek.com and that now also appears in the print magazine. An award winning reporter and writer, Fineman also is an analyst for NBC News and MSNBC, appearing regularly on Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Hardball with Chris Matthews, and The Today Show. The author of scores of Newsweek cover stories, Fineman’s work has appeared as well in the New York Times,the Washington Post, andthe New Republic. His2008 national best-selling book, The Thirteen American Arguments, was released in paperback by Random House in the spring of 2009. His current work focuses on the Obama Administration and its top officials, as well as on Congress and politics throughout the country. Fineman holds an AB, Phi Beta Kappa, from Colgate, an MS in journalism from Columbia and a JD from the Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville.

Steve Forbes is President and Chief Executive Officer of Forbes and Editor-in-Chief of Forbes, the nation's leading business magazine. Forbes and Forbes Global together reach a worldwide audience of nearly five million readers. Forbes writes editorials for each issue of Forbes under the heading of "Fact and Comment." A widely respected economic prognosticator, he is the only writer to have won the highly prestigious Crystal Owl Award four times. This prize was given to the financial journalist whose economic forecasts for the coming year proved most accurate. In both 1996 and 2000, Forbes campaigned vigorously for the Republican nomination for the Presidency. Key to his platform were a flat tax, medical savings accounts, a new Social Security system for working Americans, parental choice of schools for their children, term limits and a strong national defense. Forbes continues to energetically promote this agenda. Forbes received a B.A. in history from Princeton and holds numerous honorary degrees. Perry L. Fri

Perry L. Fri is HDMA’s Senior Vice President of Industry Relations. In his current position, Fri is responsible for the direction, supervision and development of industry initiatives that facilitate improved business processes and operational efficiencies in the healthcare supply chain. Fri most recently served as Vice President of Industry Relations and Program Development for the Health Industry Distributors Association (HIDA). Prior to joining HIDA, Fri was a consultant for The Hale Group. He was also Vice President of Industry Alliances for Instill Corporation, and was the Director of Supply Chain Management for NWDA (now HDMA). Fri holds a BA in History from the University of Maryland.

   

Elizabeth A. Gallenagh, Esq.
Vice President, Government Affairs
Healthcare Distribution Management Association

Elizabeth A. Gallenagh is the Vice President, Government Affairs for the Healthcare Distribution Management Association (HDMA).  She is responsible for HDMA’s federal and state advocacy efforts on behalf of HDMA member companies.  In addition to managing these functions, she specializes in the areas of pedigree, licensure and tax.  Prior to joining HDMA, Gallenagh specialized in Medicare Part B reimbursement and coverage policy, provider appeals, competitive bidding, fraud and abuse investigations and federal anti-kickback law. Earlier, Gallenagh also served as Legislative Assistant to Congressman Tom Manton (D-NY). Gallenagh holds a JD from the George Mason University School of Law, and a BA from The George Washington University.

   
Paul C. Julian
Executive Vice President and Group President
McKesson Corporation
Paul C. Julian is Executive Vice President and Group President of McKesson Corporation. He oversees U.S. and Canadian pharmaceutical distribution, medical-surgical distribution, specialty distribution, retail automation and pharmacy outsourcing. After joining McKesson in 1996 as Executive Vice President of McKesson Health Systems, Julian went on to become president of McKesson's medical-surgical business. Previously, he held a variety of senior management positions in healthcare companies, notably Owens & Minor and Stuart Medical, Inc. Julian currently serves as Chairman of the HDMA Board of Directors. He holds a BS from Salem State College in Massachusetts.
   

Sugar Ray Leonard
Boxing Legend and Successful Entrepreneur

An Olympic athlete and world champion boxer, Sugar Ray Leonard shows us how to set our fears of the unknown aside with preparation, focus, discipline, determination and attitude. Scott M. Melville

Scott M. Melville is HDMA’s Senior Vice President of Government Affairs, with responsibility for federal and state legislative and regulatory affairs. Prior to joining the association, Melville served as an attorney and head of government relations for Cephalon, Inc., and as a public policy director and federal lobbyist for Hoffmann-La Roche and Sterling Winthrop, respectively. He is the former chairman of the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Association and the BIO State Government Relations Committee. Prior to joining the pharmaceutical industry, Melville was a legislative counsel and Appropriations Committee associate on the staff of the U.S. Congressman Jerry Lewis (R-CA). Melville is an alumnus of Bucknell University and the George Mason University School of Law.

   

Ian Morrison
Author, Consultant and Healthcare Futurist

Ian Morrison is an internationally known author, consultant and futurist specializing in long-term forecasting and planning with particular emphasis on healthcare and the changing business environment. He combines research and consulting skills with an incisive Scottish wit to help public and private organizations plan their longer-term future. Morrison is the author of Healthcare in the New Millennium: Vision, Values and Leadership. His previous book, The Second Curve—Managing The Velocity of Change, was a New York Times Business Bestseller and Businessweek Bestseller. Morrison is a founding partner in Strategic Health Perspectives (SHP), a forecasting service for clients in the healthcare industry; President Emeritus of the Institute for the Future (IFTF); and Chair of IFTF’s Health Advisory Panel. From 1996-1999, he was retained as Chairman of the Health Futures Forum by Accenture. Morrison holds an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in urban studies from the University of British Columbia; an M.A. in geography from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and a graduate degree in urban planning from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England.
