Speaker Biographies

Michael Celentano
Director, Supply Chain Systems
Purdue Pharma L.P.

Mike Celentano is the Associate Director of Supply Chain Systems at Purdue Pharma, a mid-sized pharmaceutical manufacturer operating several production and distribution facilities on an SAP R/3 4.7 platform. Celentano brings extensive experience in both the business and system sides of supply chain operations, having previously worked for 10 years in a similar capacity for the U.S. Surgical division of TYCO Healthcare. He recently oversaw Purdue’s RFID speed bottling line. Celentano and his team have overcome many of the complex and unprecedented challenges unique to taking on a unit-level RFID-tagging initiative in pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution environment. His real-world experience has resulted in valuable lessons and learned in the practical application of RFID unit-level tagging as pertains to tags and hardware, quality assurance, EPC data collection and management, track-and trace strategy and ERP system implications.

Robert E. Kashmer
Vice President Information Technology
H. D. Smith

Rob Kashmer is the Vice President Information Technology at H. D. Smith.  Kashmer joined the company in 1995 and has more than 25 years of wholesale drug and retail drug chain experience. With Kashmer’s extensive information technology background, he was able to designate H. D. Smith as the first national distributor to install a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system that can track controlled substance pharmaceuticals within H. D. Smith distribution centers and customer sites. In addition, H. D. Smith will soon be deploying an electronic tracking system for drug tracking in Florida, making its Pompano Beach distribution center the first warehouse to be in compliance with the state’s pedigree regulations. 

Stephanie Shankles
CSOS Customer Support Manager
Drug Enforcement Administration

Stephanie Shankles is the CSOS Customer Support Manager for the Drug Enforcement Administration. She has been working on the CSOS contract for more than two years as the Customer Support Manager, working both behind the scenes and on the phones to improve the customer experience and the CSOS program. Shankles has an MBA in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix, and an undergraduate degree in Aviation Management with Flight from the Florida Institute of Technology. She has more than years of experience in the customer support field.

John G. Howells
Director, Industry Relations
Healthcare Distribution Management Association  

John Howells has more than 20 years of evaluating and implementing emerging technologies in the supply chain.  Howells previously worked for DuPont in a variety of industries, and for PriceWaterhouseCoopers, where he was one of the first to successfully implement Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) and SAP. As Director of Industry Relations at HDMA, his responsibilities include as Electronic Product Code (EPC) technical initiatives. Howells remains active in the development of EPC standards, and he serves as co-chair of the EPCglobal Healthcare and Life Sciences Business Action Group’s Technology Working Group.
