Looking Forward in Reverse Logistics

Seminar Overview

A one-day Seminar designed as a deeper dive into the state of the Rx reverse logistics industry.

HDMA will host the third-annual Looking Forward in Reverse Logistics seminar on September 30-October 1, 2009.

Join your healthcare supply chain partners for another practical and interactive discussion about reducing the volume of returned pharmaceutical products in the healthcare supply chain. This two-day program takes a deeper dive into the operational, financial and organizational challenges and processes associated with managing and reducing the volume and costs of returned goods.

This seminar brings together industry leaders across the healthcare supply chain, as well as government and public policy experts.  Hear different perspectives during open-forum discussions, allowing you to react to each topic discussed and work with supply chain partners to form new, strategic discussions.

Targeted seminar topics include:

  • Interactive Town Hall discussions
  • Special keynote presentation on what’s in store for returned products and reverse logistics in the midst of healthcare reform, environmental regulation, pedigree and track-and-trace initiatives and the heightened attention to product recall and withdrawals and burgeoning drug disposal programs
  • Understanding drivers of expired returned goods
  • Scenario planning for returned goods
  • Advances in the electronic age, with a focus on the recent revisions to the EDI 180 Return Merchandise Authorization and Notification and the 812 Debit/Credit Adjustment transaction sets to accommodate emerging business requirements
  • Decoding data and how to make channel data meaningful
  • Update on drug disposal efforts and take back programs at the state and community pharmacy level
  • Dynamic panel discussion on standardization opportunities for returned goods in the healthcare supply chain

Learn about innovative reverse logistics products and solutions at the exciting Table-Top Exhibits, open during strategic times throughout the Seminar.

Understanding the Drivers of Expired Returns
There are several product-related and demand-related drivers of expired pharmaceutical returns discussed in a recent HDMA report.  Alignment of manufacturer and distributor ship life policies with manufacturer production and inventory practices, warehouse and pharmacy stock rotation practices, particularly for short-dated products, drops in demand for seasonal products, variance between packaging size and prescribing practices, generic product launches and NDC conversions are all areas for potential improvement for companies interested in reducing the volume of expired returns.  Report highlights followed by a panel discussion of supply chain experts will dive into some of these topics with a practical viewpoint.
